Enjoying the Free Windows Vista W-LAN Promotion from T-Mobile

Well, if it rains in Seattle, what else somebody can do than having a cup of coffee at Starbucks? At least that's what I'm currently doing, enjoying my favorite Caramel Macchiato in my favorite Starbucks on Pine Street (the one with the fireplace):

But thanks to the Microsoft/T-Mobile Windows Vista promotion, I'm also enjoying the free wireless Internet, served by a T-Mobile HotSpot:

So indeed, it worked - I've just created a new T-Mobile HotSpot account and was able to immediate login to T-Mobile, free of charge.

Dear Arne Hess,

Welcome to T-Mobile HotSpot! As a new Microsoft Windows Vista customer, we’re pleased to provide you with a complimentary T-Mobile HotSpot trial account.

As a thank you for purchasing or upgrading to the new Microsoft Windows Vista operating system we have enhanced your mobile life by providing a complimentary T-Mobile HotSpot trial. Your trial account will provide T-Mobile HotSpot wireless broadband Internet service at no charge when you sign in to the HotSpot network on your mobile PC powered by Windows Vista. Complimentary service ends April 30, 2007, so sign in today!

Stay connected. Even on the go. T-Mobile HotSpot lets you stay connected to what matters most in your life. With more than 7,000 convenient HotSpot locations across the country, you can share photos, watch streaming video, download music, IM, and access your e-mail at blazing fast broadband speeds.

That's pretty cool (since it saves money) but could bring potential customers as well (into Starbucks as well as into the T-Mobile HotSpot network). Unfortunately I have to carry my my Tablet PC but cannot use my Windows Mobile devices since T-Mobile uses a kind of OS and browser sniffing mechanism to make sure only Windows Vista systems can login free of charge (wonder why 32-bit versions are mentioned above only). Anyway, my Tablet PC is working fine, the Slingbox streams and I can watch my German TV here. ;-) No, seriously - just tried it but I'm preferring to enjoy the atmosphere on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Cheers ~ Arne
