Get your Windows Vista upgraded Fujitsu (Siemens) Lifebook T4210 working with Bluetooth

Wow, Fujitsu Siemens really gave me a hard time to get my Bluetooth working
correctly. First, Fujitsu Siemens isn't offering Windows Vista Bluetooth drivers
yet but is saying anything about license blah blah blah... Ok, not a big deal at
all since Toshiba offers Bluetooth drivers for Windows Vista already, I've
downloaded and installed after I've upgraded to Windows Vista Business.
Nevertheless, I'm not a big fan of Toshiba's Bluetooth implementation. While
their Bluetooth stack offers a fantastic range of supported profiles, I had
massive problems using the two profiles I'm using most: ActiveSync to wirelessly
sync my Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones with my Notebook/Tablet PC and
DUN (dial-up networking) to access the Internet via UMTS, using my Pocket PC.
ActiveSync completely failed (I wasn't able to sync via Bluetooth) and DUN had
massive problems to establish and keep a stable connection.
Therefore I was trying everything the past 24 hours to get rid of the Toshiba
Bluetooth stack but get the original Windows Vista Bluetooth stack working and
here's what I did to manage it:
- Update the Bios
- Upgrade your Lifebook T4210 to Microsoft Windows Vista
- Install all Windows Vista Beta drivers you can get from the Fujitsu
Siemens support page
- While Windows Vista recognizes the Bluetooth hardware, it doesn't
recognize which hardware it is. Nevertheless, don't install any Toshiba
Bluetooth drivers but search for the right driver by yourself:
- Deselect "Show compatible hardware"
- In the Manufacture list go up to "Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd." since
that's the vendor of the Bluetooth hardware and select "Generic Bluetooth
Radio":
- This installs all the necessary drivers, out of Windows Vista and
includes the Microsoft Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator as well:
Here we go, the Microsoft Windows Vista Bluetooth stack is installed on
your machine, no further need to use the Toshiba Bluetooth stack.
After I've installed the Windows Vista Bluetooth stack, I hadn't found
any further problems in doing ActiveSync over Bluetooth or using my Pocket
PC as my Bluetooth modem and also my Bluetooth keyboard connected well.
