Möbius 2006 - Day 0
Posted by Arne Hess - at 23:46 CET under Job - Editor and Journalist

Ok, i was quite a little bit silent here during the past days (on the::unwired) and the past weeks (in my blog). Well, at the moment I'm a little bit (too) busy with another job/task and therefore I hadn't found too much time to jump in here.
Anyway, I took some days "off" now to join the Möbius 2006 conference in Boston (you remember, Möbius Part 1 was last week in Thailand).

So I've just arrived, (thankfully) non-stop from Munich and checked in just to find out, I've forgotten some adapters at home (as I said, I'm quite busy at the moment and it looks like I had my head anywhere else when I've packed my bag). Anyway, thankfully the hotel is located close to a mall where we have BestBuy and RadioShack which means I can a) charge my devices (I had the European chargers with me only plus two USB cables I could use for charging anyway) and b) I can upload photos from the event (because I also forgot my CF to PC card adapter because I changed my bag in the last minute to a backpack).

I flew with Lufthansa which still operates Connexion by Boeing and basically I was online the whole flight; but not with my Notebook (the battery is completely dead, right after 45 minutes, the Notebooks hibernates - in the beginning it worked roughly 4 hours on battery and since I had an Economy chair, I hadn't had a power plug there) but with my O2 Xda trion (which means I've used the trion together with W-LAN for around 5 - 6 hours). Not that bad but after the flight, also the trion's battery was completely drained.

So here we go tonight with the meet and great to follow-up with the conference tomorrow morning. I'm really looking forward to meet old fellow Möbians again and to meet new ones, most often folks which websites I read every day but I never met in reality so far nor I know who they are.

The boy's new toy - here the Nikon Macro Speed Light SB29s
Posted by Arne Hess - at 08:49 CET under Job - Editor and Journalist

Yesterday I finally got it, my new speed light for my Nikon digital camera. While we, at the::unwired always try to provide you the best news, views and reviews, images, photos and screenshots are a vital part of the stories: a picture says more than 1000 words.
In the past I've mostly worked with the inbuilt flash of my Nikon Coolpix 5700 but especially for reviews or at fairs, it wasn't good enough to get the best possible results. Therefore I decided to buy a dedicated macro flash to get better results and I have chosen the Nikon Speed Light SB29s:

The first results of the new flash can be seen here at my latest review of the Bluetake i-PHONO mini Bluetooth Stereo Headphone BT450Rx:

Packing my bags for 3GSM Congress in Barcelona
Posted by Arne Hess - at 21:34 CET under Job - Editor and Journalist

Barcelona is the keyword, I always want to say Cannes and interesting enough I'm not the only one. :-) Most of the GSM insiders are still talking about Cannes like "see you in Cannes!" or "will you be in Cannes too?".
The reason for this is simple: for more than 15 years or so, the 3GSM Congress (in the early day it just was the GSM Congress) was in Cannes until it became too busy and expensive there. Therefore the GSMA moved it to Barcelona.

I think it's my 8th or 9th GSM Congress I'm attending and I'm leaving for tomorrow noon. While in the early days I was attending it as an employee when I was working for network operators and MVNOs (in Germany and UK better known as Service Providers), for some years now I'm attending it as a consultant, which I'm and for sure as a journalist, which I'm also - at least a kind of. My agenda is pretty mixed, some consultant related stuff, some journalist related stuff and plenty of time (this year I stay one day longer and will fly back on Thursday - my birthday ;-) - which is a good reason to leave and to be at home in the evening anyway) to roam through the conference and around the exhibition. So for sure you will find my personal 3GSM coverage here at the::unwired (in English) and over at digital living mobile (in German).
